Battle of Enitachopco Creek
As Andrew Jackson’s army retreated back to Fort Strother
after its encounter at Emuckfau Creek, the Red Sticks
attacked them as they crossed Enitochopco Creek on
January 24, 1814. The battle centered on the Red Sticks’
determined, but unsuccessful, attempts to capture Jackson’
s artillery.
Enitochopco Creek is northeast of Horseshoe Bend and
meanders through Tallapoosa and Clay Counties. The exact
location of the battlefield is unknown and there is no marker
to commemorate the event. The creek can be accessed
northwest of Goldville, Alabama, from a county road that
runs off Highway 49.
