An allied Creek town on the Chattahoochee River, Coweta was a major Creek population and political
center. The town was home to several influential allied Creek leaders, most notably William McIntosh.

The town was located on the western bank of the Chattahoochee River a few miles south of
modern-day Phenix City, Alabama opposite of Columbus, Georgia. A historical marker
commemorating the town stands on Brickyard Road.
