Fort Deposit
General Ferdinand L. Claiborne’s command constructed Fort Deposit in mid-December 1813 to serve as a supply
depot during his campaign against the Holy Ground. Claiborne left his army’s wagons, cannon, and a small
number of sick under the guard of approximately one hundred men here before setting out for the Creek village
on December 22, 1813.
An historic marker commemorating the fort stands a short distance from its original location near Old Fort Road
in Fort Deposit, Alabama. The fort site lies on private property.
