George Stiggins, the son of an English man and a Natchez Indian woman, grew up among the Creeks
in present-day Alabama. In later life he wrote the manuscript for Creek Indian History: A Historical
Narrative of the Genealogy, Traditions and Downfall of the Ispocoga or Creek Indian Tribe of Indians,
the only narrative of the Creek War from the Creek perspective in book form. The book was
published posthumously.
This marker dedicated to him stands on Old Highway 80 (Old Federal Road) just outside of Shorter,
Alabama.
